Code references in macOS 26.1 beta 3 hints that Apple will release a second-generation Apple Pro Display XDR in the near future, reports 9to5Mac.
And it may add something missing from the current model: a webcam that will support Center Stage and ultra-wide perspectives. Other hardware changes could include 7K resolution, Thunderbolt 4/5 ports, embedded Apple silicon, higher refresh rates, and possibly display technology improvements including quantum dot films, notes 9to5Mac.
Apple released the $5,000 Pro Display XDR in 2019 —along with an optional stand for another $1,000. It hasn’t been updated since.
Of course, ordinary folks like my can’t afford the monitor. I’d rather see Apple release an updated 27-inch (or perhaps a 32-inch pro model) Studio Display with mini-LED technology and support for ProMotion technology for refresh rates up to 120MHz. The display will probably cost more than the “non-Pro” version, but far less than the 6K Pro Display XDR.
