Otterbox Sole Series is a solid iPhone case choice for outdoor-sy types

The Otterbox Sole Series is a solid iPhone case choice for outdoor-sy types.

The Otterbox Sole Series is a premium case that blends, in the company’s words, “OtterBox’s outdoor DNA with modern street style.”

After using it with my iPhone 17 Pro Max, I’ve found it to be rugged and protective thanks to its nylon backing, tread-like grip. It boasts protective PET backing wrapped in performance nylon, and a grippy rubber bumper with treaded detailing.

OtterBox says the Sole Series has been tested to 5X the military drop standard (MIL-STD-810G 516.6). I’ll take their word for it, as I’m not going to deliberately drop my iPhone 17 Pro Max to test it.

The US$69.99 Sole Series is MagSafe compatible, so offers strong attachment and alignment with MagSafe accessories via the case’s strong, integrated magnets. Another nice touch is its Camera Control button that allows seamless interaction while taking photos. For added convenience and carry options, each case comes with a removable lanyard loop engraved with the coordinates of the OtterBox headquarters. I find the lanyard loop distracting and don’t use it, but you may feel differently.`

The Sole Series isn’t the best-looking iPhone case around, but it’s attractive enough with its speckled stone powder finish. It’s available in black, green, blue, and pink (blue is my favorite).

OtterBox Glass

A nice accompanying accessory to the Sole Series case is OtterBox Glass, a $39.99 screen protector. It provides drop defense for shatter resistance and scratch protection thanks to its 9H surface hardness.

OtterBox Glass also offers fingerprint and smudge resistance, and doesn’t interfere with the phone’s touch response. A “quick & easy install kit” is included, but, as always, I still had to go verrrry slooowly to apply it without leaving irritating bubbles.
