Software announcements for the week of March 31-April 4

PeakNote

Here are some of the latest software announcements of the week:

° Developer Maksym Babenko has released PeekNote, a lightweight, always-on-top notepad built for developers, writers, and multitaskers who need quick access to notes, code snippets, and to-dos without breaking their flow. You can download and try it for free by clicking here.

° The Proton Drive macOS app has been completely rebuilt from the ground up, delivering doubling upload and download speeds, and redesigning the interface. Users can now track file syncing progress directly from the desktop menu bar and share, edit, and collaborate, without the need to search through folders.

Files now reportedly sync seamlessly, allowing users to access and edit files in their Proton Drive folder directly from their Finder, with automatic updates across all devices and giving access to the latest file versions even if their device is lost or damaged. With offline access users can download  files and folders to access and edit them without an internet connection. Any edits made while offline will sync automatically once the device is reconnected.

° The latest update of the RainViewer weather app brings advanced forecasting tools such as 72-hour precipitation and temperature projections and the ability to switch between global weather models.

With the launch of Radar XL, users can now track storms worldwide, even in regions with limited radar coverage, thanks to a fusion of radar and satellite data. RainViewer is free, but does offer in-app purchases.

° Streets, the street view browser app, has just released a significant update: Streets 5. This latest version introduces Timeline, a new feature that lets users explore past panoramas and see how locations have changed over time.

Streets is available for the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Macs with Apple Silicon processor. It’s free to download from the app stores in the Travel category. A 3-day free trial is available for new users. The subscription is US$4.99 per month or $24.99per year. A discount of over 60% is available for existing users who already purchased the app.

° Eightpoint introduces Check Heart Rate Now, a mobile app that the company says “transforms any iPhone into a smart, real-time heart monitoring device.” It’s a free download at the Apple App Store, but does promote in-app purchases.

°  In response to growing challenges facing seniors and their caregivers—including caregiver shortages, health impacts of loneliness and isolation, and increased demands on families—ONSCREEN has announced its proactive AI companion named Joy. It’s a free download for iPad and Android tablets on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
