Apple cancels plans for AR glasses that would require tethering to a Mac

Apple has Apple canceled plans for AR glasses that would require tethering to a Mac, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

“The company shuttered the program this week, according to people with knowledge of the move,” he says. “The now-canceled product would have looked like normal glasses but include built-in displays and require a connection to a Mac, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the work wasn’t public. An Apple representative declined to comment.”

This doesn’t mean that Apple is abandoning hope of ever making AR glasses, just that its realizes no one would want such a product that had to be tethered to a device such as a Mac or iPhone. The Sellers Research Group (that’s me) thinks we’ll see “Apple Glasses” that can overcome the current limitations of such devices.

Meanwhile, we can hope for a Vision Pro 2 with a faster processor, as well as a non-pro Apple Vision at a lower price.
