The JSAUX Magnetic Cooling Shooting Grip is pretty handy for shooting ProRes videos on an iPhone, though I had one issue with it.
But first, some background: Apple ProRes is a high quality, “visually lossless” lossy video compression format developed by Apple for use in post-production. It supports video resolution up to 8K. ProRes was introduced in 2007 with Final Cut Studio 2. It’s designed as a combination of multistream, real-time editing performance, impressive image quality, and reduced storage rates.
The JSAUX MagCool OmniGrip is specifically designed to work with the ProRes feature. This magnetic cooling grip features semiconductor cooling technology and supports an M.2 SSD slot for high-speed storage of video while shooting in ProRes mode.
My one beef is that my iPhone 16 Pro Max wouldn’t stay attached to the OmniGrip if I stumbled or experienced a hard bump with it. A little stronger attachment would be much appreciated.
The JSAUX MagCool OmniGrip includes a built-in 6000mAh battery, a 3.5mm TRRS microphone port, a USB-C data storage port, and a PD USB-C port for powering both the grip and the phone. The grip is foldable and equipped with three functional buttons: a semiconductor cooling switch, a fill light switch, and a dedicated capture button for seamless shooting.
ProRes video files are large and quickly fill up your iPhone’s storage, especially during 4K recording on iPhone 15/16 Pro Max. The MagCool OmniGrip’s M.2 SSD slot supports up to 2TB and delivers fast 10Gbps transfer speeds. And it’s compatible with both NVMe and SATA drives.
The MagCool OmniGrip runs cool as it uses a large cooling plate and fans to lower device temperatures from over 70°C to under 50°C during outdoor shoots. It’s also durable as it sports a shock-absorbing microphone mount.
The MagCool OmniGrip has a lot of attractive features. Now JSAUX needs to make it even more (pun intended) attracted in keeping an iPhone attached.
