Apple wants you to be able to draw and write in an extended reality environment using the Vision Pro as evidenced by a newly granted patent (number US 12154236 B1).
About the patent
The patent related generally to extended reality, and more specifically to systems and techniques for assisted drawing and writing in extended reality. In the patent, Apple notes that to provide an extended reality experience, an electronic device can superimpose the display of a virtual object over a view of an environment.
Modifying the view in this manner can inform users whether the virtual object is compatible with the environment. For example, displaying a virtual object (e.g., virtual furniture) at various locations in a physical environment can inform a user whether a corresponding physical object (e.g., physical furniture) fits in the physical environment at the various locations.
Apple’s patent would allow the Vision Pro to do this, as well as draw and write in a spatial computing environment.

Here’s Apple’s abstract of the patent: “An example process includes: receiving, from a user, an input corresponding to a request for assistance with a drawing; in accordance with receiving the input, selecting a physical surface in a physical environment; displaying, over the selected physical surface, a graphical overlay representing the drawing, where displaying the graphical overlay over the selected physical surface includes anchoring the graphical overlay to the selected physical surface; and while displaying the graphical overlay over the selected physical surface: detecting a marking produced by the user on the physical surface, the marking corresponding to the drawing.”
