Apple, aiming to catch up with rivals in the smart home market, plans to launch a wall-mounted display that can control appliances, handle videoconferencing and use artificial intelligence (AI) to navigate apps, according to Bloomberg (a subscription is required to read the article).
The tech giant may announce the iPad-ish device as soon as March 2025 for around US$300. Apple will position it as a command center for the home, the article adds, quoting unnamed “people with knowledge of the effort.” The product, code-named J490, also will spotlight the new Apple Intelligence AI platform, adds Bloomberg.
The article says the display would have a square-ish design, be portable, and pack an internal battery. Users could purportedly would mount it to anchor points on a wall, in a speaker stand in the kitchen, or in a stand by the bedside.
