Apple has been granted a patent (number US 12086299 B1) for “Touch Input for Head-Mountable Devices” that hints at future Vision Pros with touch input.
About the patent
In the patent Apple says that a user may interact with the spatial computer by providing inputs for processing by one or more components of the Vision Pro. Apple wants users to be able to use tactile inputs, as well as voice commands, and other inputs while the device is mounted to the user’s head. And Apple wants the spatial computer’s touch sensors to be able to detect between intentional and unintentional touches.
Summary of the patent
Here’s Apple’s abstract of the patent: “A head-mountable device can be provided with an ability to detect whether a touch input provided to an input detecting element is intentional or unintentional. For example, multiple touch sensors can be provided at different locations on a housing of a head-mountable device. A first one of the touch sensors can be operated to detect a first touch input. A second touch sensor can be operated to detect a second touch input only when the first touch input is detected and/or above a threshold.”
