7-24 news round-up: Apple Distinguished Educator, more°

Since Steve and I can’t cover everything, we’ll frequently offer a wrap-up of news items you should check out. First up: Apple’s news site offers an article dubbed “Future forward: The 40-year mission of an Apple Distinguished Educator” about Dr. Carl Owens,who has been teaching his students how to harness the power of technology for 40 years, including more than half as an Apple Distinguished Educator (ADE). 

° And this is why Apple is moving away from Intel to “Apple Silicon”: as noted by Tom’s Hardware, Intel announced today in its Q2 2020 earnings release that it has now delayed the rollout of its 7nm CPUs by six months relative to its previously-planned release date,

° Apple will use super-thin rigid PCB boards provided by Tripod Technology in its upcoming mini LED-backlit iPads and MacBooks, according to DigiTimes

° Apple has stopped signing code for iOS 13.5.1, so users who updated to the latest iOS 13.6 can’t downgrade to the previous operating system.

° Bloomberg says that Apple considered being chip designer Arm Ltd., but has passed. Now it looks like Nvidia may make the acquisition.

° AT&T has announced that its 5G network is now live across the US, making it available to more than 205 million customers.

° ° As noted by MacRumors, Apple partner Corning has unveiled Gorilla Glass Victus, which is purportedly more scratch resistant than previous versions of Gorilla Glass.
