5 Award-Winning Apple TV+ Movies and Series to Watch with Friends

Apple has “made a big brand-partnerships hire who will work across its Apple TV+ entertainment business, a sign that it's serious about becoming a bigger advertising company,” reports Business Insider.

The start of 2024 was big for Apple TV+ as three of their original TV series dominated at the 75th Creative Arts Emmy Awards last January.

Well, it’s not a surprise since Apple TV+ has always been known to have a limited yet refined library so they’re mostly quality over quantity, unlike other platforms whose selling points are all about having the most content. But since you’re here, it’s safe to say that you already have an Apple TV+ subscription and are looking for the next content to watch.

We’ve spent hours watching movies and TV series on this platform for several weeks, and we’re here to share some of their award-winning shows and movies that we think are worth your time. Of course, you have to keep in mind that these won’t be available on other platforms like Netflix, Sling TV, Hulu, and others because they’re exclusive to Apple TV+. Let’s start!

  1. Ted Lasso (2020-2023)

Ted Lasso is a TV series that has won countless awards from its first season down to its third season. It’s all about an American football coach who was invited to coach a professional British soccer team AFC Richmond. The catch? Ted knows next to nothing about the sport. This culture clash made the show funny – he was ridiculed, booed, and hated by AFC Richmond’s fans but he just shrugs it off and does his best for the team.

It’s a classic type of TV show that you often see on cable or satellite TV like DISH Latino where you and your family can sit together and watch the show to have a hearty laugh. It’s definitely one for the books so you shouldn’t miss this show.

  1. STILL: A Michael J. Fox Movie (2023)

This documentary movie is about the life of the renowned actor Michael J. Fox. Directed by Davis Guggenheim, the entire movie is about his rise to fame as a young star and the characters he played over the years, specifically the iconic ones such as Marty McFly in Back to the Future. You also get to see how he lived his life after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease at age 29. Even if you’re not a fan of Michael J. Fox, you’ll still be able to find this movie honest, intimate, and really heartwarming. The awards this film received are definitely well-deserved.

  1. Black Bird (2022)

If you like true-crime drama, then Black Bird should be on your next list. Based on the memoir “In with the Devil” by James Keene, this miniseries is about Jimmy Keene, a young man who was sentenced to 10 years in prison. He was offered a chance at freedom but it’s with a catch: he needs to befriend a suspected serial killer and get his confession to locate the bodies of his victims.

It’s a beautiful yet thrilling series that in our opinion should be shared to more people by offering it to other streaming platforms. Hopefully, in the near future, it will be available on Netflix, Hulu, Sling TV, Dish Latino TV deals, and many more.

  1. Five Days at Memorial (2022)

Five Days at a Memorial is another true-to-life miniseries about a New Orleans hospital during Hurricane Katrina. When the storm hits, the power cuts out and floodwaters rise, leaving Dr. Anna Pou and the staff with impossible choices. With sick patients and running out of supplies, they have to make life-or-death decisions. This emotional drama explores a real-life disaster and the tough questions it raises.

  1. CODA (2021)

CODA (2021) is a coming-of-age comedy-drama movie about Ruby who’s the only hearing member in her deaf family.  She helps her parents and older brother with their fishing business before school, but Ruby also discovers a hidden talent: singing.  When Ruby joins her high school choir, she discovers a hidden talent and dreams of attending a prestigious music school. However, this means potentially leaving her family behind who rely on her for communication.

Will she truly abandon her family for her dream or will she strive hard to make her dreams come true while managing the complexities of being a Child of Deaf Adults? It’s for you to find out.

Wrapping Up

Even though Apple TV+ doesn’t have an extensive library, the quality of shows and movies they put out there speaks volumes about the extensive selection and development process they go through before showing a TV show or a movie to their subscribers. If you’re more for quality over quantity, you have the perfect subscription right there. We hope you enjoy these movies and TV shows as much as we did!
