Apple’s iPad still dominates the global table market though sales are way down annually

The global tablet market fell 23% year-over-year (YoY) to 32 million units in quarter three (Q3) of 2026, marking its lowest shipment level in nearly three years, according to Omdia’s latest research.

Apple still dominates the worldwide tablet market, though iPad sales were down 27.5% year-over-year in the third quarter. Apple sold 11.6 million tablets in the quarter, compared to 16 million in the third quarter of 2025. Its global market share dropped from 38.2% to 36% annually.

Trailing Apple in the global tablet market, as of Q3 2026, are: Samsung (16.9% market share), Lenovo (12.7% market share), Xiaomi (7.3% market share), and Huawei (5.7% market share).

“Following a 10% decline last quarter, the tablet market recorded another double-digit contraction in quarter three,” said Himani Mukka, Research Manager at Omdia. “As supply constraints intensify, tablets are increasingly taking a backseat in vendors’ strategic priorities for 2026 and 2027. With supply conditions expected to tighten further next year, a meaningful recovery in the tablet market is unlikely before 2028.”
