A new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman — as noted by AppleInsider — predicts that not only is Apple aiming to add Face ID to a future iPhone Duo, but that it may not need a notch or cutout.
Specifically, it will come as soon as the next generation of the iPhone Duo. It is to be Face ID as we know it, but the sensor will be under the display. If this happens, it will likely be a feature of the second generation foldable iPhone that’s likely to arrive in 2027.
Apple is purportedly testing prototypes that integrate Face ID directly beneath the outer display. This would replace or supplement the side-mounted Touch ID sensor used on the first-generation iPhone Duo, which is supposed to be available tomorrow for the lucky few who actually manage to get their hands on one.
A third generation of the foldable smartphone is likely to integrate a dedicated telephoto lens alongside the main and ultra-wide cameras. This would overcome the optical limitations of the current model, which is one of the biggest complaints.
