I’ve been using the MP Duex Max DS for several weeks now. It’s a portable monitor you can use as a laptop screen extender or as a standalone display for almost anything with HDMI or USB-C—laptops, a Nintendo Switch, and other devices.
The packaging is nice and includes everything you need to set up the extra screen: the necessary cables (including USB-C to USB-C, plus a USB-A adapter), and a template for placing the magnets on the back of the laptop so the screen can be removed easily if you don’t want it attached all the time.
For the monitor to work, it needs to be powered by the laptops battery and connected with the HDMI-to-mini-HDMI cable.
Once everything is plugged in, the picture is great and the monitor functions just as it should.
There are admittedly a lot of cords, but the device itself is fairly thin, at only about 1/2 inch.
The accessories are designed to attach to your laptop on the go, but it also works with a Nintendo Switch (and other gaming systems). Connected to the Switch, it had a great picture and was very responsive.
This portable monitor is a strong option if you need extra screen real estate while traveling and don’t mind a few cables. It does exactly what it advertises and is a solid portable device.
I wouldn’t use it as my main office setup, but I would definitely take it on the go and would recommend it for anyone who travels. It does come with magnets to attach to the laptop, but I find it easier to use the cover as a stand and set it beside the computer. Set up takes less than a minute and I can easily slip the monitor in my backpack and it will stay protected with the cover.
(By the way, the MP Duex Max DS is normally US$299, but you can get it for $229.49 for a limited time.
