I’m a little skeptical, but a new report claims the iPhone Duo is reportedly facing production difficulties with early output expected to be limited.
Quoting unnamed “people close to the matter,” China‘s Jiemian News says that the current yield of the whole machine of Foxconn’s iPhone Duo assembly is only more than 60%, and the first batch of production is small. (Foxconn is one of Apple’s manufacturing suppliers). According to Apple’s existing quality standards, it may take half a year or even a year for the yield of the whole machine to reach a mature level, the article adds.
From the report: Now (the supply chain) is waiting for Apple to make a decision to see whether to relax the quality requirements. If the quality requirements are relaxed, it is possible to promote large-scale mass production faster. The above-mentioned people said that the low yield is not entirely because a certain technology has not been solved, but because Apple has mass-produced folding screen mobile phones for the first time, and the production line still needs to repeatedly adjust the equipment, processes and parameters in actual operation. The production line can’t be done directly with technology and equipment. It needs to be debugged at the same time.
Currently, pre-orders for the iPhone Due begin Friday, October 16, with availability beginning Friday, October 23. It will be available in star white and night sky with prices starting at US $1,999 or $83.29 per month for 24 months, in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB storage capacities.13
