Updates of the Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini are reportedly almost ready to launch

New versions of the Apple TV 4K set-top box and HomePod mini are almost reach to launch, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his latest “Power On” newsletter.

He said the updates have been ready for months, but Apple isn’t releasing them until the long-away, “more-personalized” version of Siri is available.

That’s expected to arrive alongside macOS 27, iOS 27, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, and visionOS 27 at next week’s Apple Worldwide Developer Conference. The operating system updates are expected to arrive to users in September or October. This seems like a potential launch period for the revamped Apple TV and HomePod.

“I am told the hardware for the next Apple TV set-top box and HomePod mini has been done for months and that both devices are already in active use among employees at the company’s headquarters in Cupertino, California,” Gurman said.

Gurman thinks the next Apple TV set-top box and HomePod mini will sport an Apple-designed Bluetooth and Wi-Fi chip. The chip will support Wi-Fi 6E, though Apple may not be able to match all of Broadcom’s chip capabilities with the first-generation in-house Wi-Fi chip.

He also thinks that the Apple TV set-top box will arrive at a lower price: US$99. And Gurman adds that, unsurprisingly, there will likely be new color options for the HomePod mini.

Beyond a newer chipset, the next Apple TV 4K may come with a new Siri Remote. Gurman said it could be merely be an internal refresh or an all-new design.

There is, I’m told, a possibility the remote will be refreshed in some form, but the box itself will look similar to the current version, which is an incarnation of the 2010 industrial design. (And even the remote update could just be a minor change inside the accessory, rather than something noticeable.)
