Apple will transition from 2-nanometer chips to 1.4-nanometer chips with the high-end 2028 iPhones, says Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman (a subscription is required to read the article).
He says Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) will make the majority of Apple’s A22 Pro chips, though Intel could produce some of them. The current iPhone 17 line-up use a third-generation N3P 3-nanometer process. The iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and foldable iPhone expected in September 2026 will be the first to have chips built on a next-generation 2nm process, notes MacRumors.
For 2028, Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 21following 2027’s iPhone 20, the 20th anniversary iPhone. Morgan Stanley researchers predict that high-end 2028 models will upgrade to a 200-megapixel camera sensor, a major leap in resolution and imaging capabilities.
