Analyst says there is no ‘Vision Air’ in Apple’s ‘Vision Roadmap’ (but I disagree)

For now, only two smart glasses products remain visible in Apple’s Vision roadmap, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in an X post.

The major overhaul was signed off by John Ternus, who replaces Tim Cook as Apple CEO on September 1. This shift actually happened a while back, Kuo said.

“I think removing the Vision Pro line was the right call, as Apple shifts resources toward smart glasses with greater mass-market potential,” he added. “My latest supply chain checks suggest Apple’s display-equipped AR/XR smart glasses device, powered by optical waveguides, has slipped to 2029. The display-less AI glasses, similar to Ray-Ban Meta, are still expected to ship in 2027.”

According to Kuo, there are no planned updates to the Vision Pro line-up, just “Apple Glasses.” I’m dubious about his roadmap and think that Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman is right in his forecast.

In his latest “Power On” newsletter he said a lighter version of the Apple Vision Pro (a “Vision Air) may arrive in 2028 or 2029, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

“Apple needs to fix the design and pricing problems that turned the first Vision Pro into a flop, and that category will essentially be on ice until then,” he said.

I think Gurman is right. I don’t think Apple’s spatial computing lineup is dead just yet.
