How to dismiss a nagging ‘Immediate Threat Alert’ on your iPhone

Screenshot

Recently, we had a severe storm and tornado warning in my neck of the woods (Nashville, TN). As usual, my iPhone gave me an “Immediate Threat Alert.”

However, hours after the danger passed, the alert popped up again and again. Of course, I found this very aggravating.

If this happens to you, you can swipe or tap the notification to acknowledge it. If the alert is frozen on screen, force restart your iPhone by pressing Volume Up, then Volume Down, then holding the side power button.

You can also disable future alerts by going to Settings > Notifications, scroll to the bottom, and toggle off Emergency Alerts, Severe Alerts, or Public Safety Alerts under the “Government Alerts” section.

However, I strongly advise against this. As a person who lives in an area where severe storms are common, I know that such alerts can save your life.
