Report claims Apple is being cautious in its sales expectations for the foldable iPhone

Leaker Sonny Dickson has posted a photo of dummy units showing the final size of the iPhone Fold next to iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone 18 Pro Max.

The Elec says Apple is being cautious in its expectations for sales of its first foldable iPhone.

The article claims that the tech giant had initially expected to sell around 10 million units of the “iPhone Fold” (or perhaps it will be dubbed the “iPhone Ultra”) during the launch phase, but its manufacturing partners have now been told to expect to produce around 3 million. So what’s up?

“Apple’s cautious approach follows its experience with the $3,499 Vision Pro headset, which faced weak sales amid price resistance,” says The Elec. “The foldable iPhone is seen as potentially facing similar challenges.

There have been mixed reports about whether the iPhone Fold/iPhone Ultra will arrive. Most pundits expect it to be available in September or October, but a Nikkei Asia report claimed that Apple has encountered setbacks during the engineering test phase and might not release it until 2027.
