macOS Tahoe 26.4 and iPadOS 26.4 returned the compact tab bar. To implement it:
° Open Safari.
° Click Safari in the menu bar and select Settings (or press Command +).
° Click the Tabs tab in the settings window.
° Under “Tab layout,” select Compact.
In Compact view, the active tab acts as the address bar, and the tab bar moves up to the toolbar area. If you try it, and decide If you prefer the traditional layout, you can choose “Separate” in the same settings menu.
