visionOS 24 was released this week with new emoji, an upgraded video podcast experience, and better Spatial Audio performance on the Apple Vision Pro.
What is Spatial Audio?
Apple says Spatial Audio gives artists the opportunity to create immersive audio experiences for their fans with true multidimensional sound and clarity. Dolby Atmos is an immersive audio experience that enables artists to mix music so the sound comes from all around and from above.
To use Spatial Audio in visionOS on the Vision Pro
° Access Control Center: Look up and tap the downward arrow to open the Control Center.
° Control Spatial Audio: Pinch and hold the volume icon to view sound options.
° Select Mode: Off turns off both Spatial Audio and head tracking. Fixe turns on Spatial Audio without head tracking, making it sound like it’s coming from a fixed location. Head Tracked turns on both Spatial Audio and head tracking, so sound adjusts as you move your head.
° Dolby Atmos Content: Ensure it is active for compatible media by going to Settings > Apps > Music > Dolby Atmos and selecting Automatic or Always On.
By the way, for developers, Spatial Audio can be implemented in RealityKit using SpatialAudioComponent to attach 3D sound to entities.
