The upcoming iOS 27 — likely to be previewed at this summer’s Apple worldwide Developer Conference — will focus on stability and performance improvements instead of new features, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his latest “Power On” newsletter.
He says Apple will implement some interface tweaks, including some changes to the Liquid Glass design, but nothing major. Old apps will purportedly be upgraded for better performance and longer battery life. AI features are also down for improvements. Gurman says that Apple plans to tidy up its c code base by removing “scraps” of old code.
“The company hopes that underlying code changes will result in efficiency gains that will end up giving users more juice,” Gurman writes. “If Apple does indeed pull off these improvements, it’s unclear if the company will market the changes — or if this is just a benefit of cleaning things up.”
