Apple’s Health app may one day be able to track your medications, as evidenced by a new Apple patent filing for “User Interfaces to Track Medications.”

About the patent filing

In the patent filing Apple says that some techniques for tracking medications using electronic devices, however, are generally cumbersome and inefficient. For example, some existing techniques use a complex and time-consuming user interface, which may include multiple key presses or keystrokes. 

Apple says that existing techniques require more time than necessary, wasting user time and device energy. This latter consideration is particularly important in battery-operated devices.

Apple’s patent involves techniques that provide electronic devices with faster, more efficient methods and interfaces for tracking medications. Such methods and interfaces optionally complement or replace other methods for tracking medications.

Here’s Apple’s abstract of the patent filing: “The present disclosure generally relates to methods and user interfaces for tracking medications, managing logging actions (e.g., for tracked medications), and/or displaying summaries of tracked medications.”
