Apple’s “iPhone Fold” will share the same next-generation A20 Pro chip as the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models when it debuts this September, industry analyst Jeff Pu says in a note to clients — as noted by MacRumors.
However, he thinks the regular iPhone 18 and an iPhone 18e won’t arrive until spring 2027 as part of Apple’s “split-launch strategy.” The iPhone Fold will have a price tag of around US$2,400. Here are some other rumors about the first foldable iPhone:
° Apple will use advanced liquid metal and improved titanium alloys for its first foldable iPhone
° The outer display on the book-style smartphone will have a 5.3-inch cover display and a 7.7-inch main display.
° It may be in short supply at launch due to production challenges.
° The design will prioritize thinness, so there will be a side-mounted Touch ID fingerprint sensor, but no Face ID or an under-display fingerprint sensor.
° Apple is placing great emphasis on hinger durability and crease reduction.
° The foldable iPhone will pack a a dual 48-megapixel rear camera system described as having a “large base.”
° It may have the biggest-ever battery in an iPhone.
° The rear camera will feature a dual-lens setup, with one front-facing camera available in both folded and unfolded states.
° It will measure 9–9.5mm thick when folded and 4.5–4.8mm when unfolded.
° The hinge will combine stainless steel and titanium alloy, while the casing opts for titanium alloy.
° It will use the same high-density battery cells as the ultra-thin iPhone 17.
