Johny Srouji — senior vice president of hardware technologies — might consider leaving Apple

Apple’s Johny Srouji says he’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

Let’s hope this is just a rumor: Apple exec Johny Srouji is “seriously” considering leaving the company, according to a new report from Bloomberg

From the report: Johny Srouji — senior vice president of hardware technologies and one of Apple’s most respected executives — recently told [CEO Tim] Cook that he is seriously considering leaving in the near future, according to people with knowledge of the matter. Srouji, the architect of Apple’s prized in-house chips effort, has informed colleagues that he intends to join another company if he ultimately departs.

Bloomberg doesn’t say why he’s considering leaving, but it’s not for retirement. Reportedly, he doesn’t want to work under a new CEO, so may be concerned over the rumors that Cook will retire next year.

The article says that Apple is trying to convince him to stay by offering “substantial” pay packages and a possible promotion to chief technology officer. The promotion would make him Apple’s second most powerful executive.

Srouji joined joined Apple in 2008 to lead development of A4, the first Apple-designed system on a chip. Prior to Apple, Srouji held senior positions at Intel and IBM in the area of processor development and design.

He earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Computer Science from Technion, Israel’s Institute of Technology. Last year he was rumored to be a contender as the new CEO of Intel, but that never happened.

If Sjouji does bid adieu, it would the fifth high profile Apple exec to leave in recent months. Design lead Alan Dye, AI chief John Giannandrea, general counsel Kate Adams, and environment/policy VP Lisa Jackson all announced their transitions this week.

9to5Mac says “this is all part of a massive reorganization going on at Apple, likely to prepare the company for Tim Cook’s eventual retirement as CEO.” Bloomberg’s report also mentions that retail chief Dierdre O’Brien and marketing SVP Greg Joswiak are also likely to retire in the coming future, given their 35-40 year tenures at the company.
