Report claims the iPhone Air is such a bomb no version 2 is planned

There have been mixed reports on whether the iPhone Air is a hit or a bust. The latest report says it’s a bomb.

On October 22, Nikkei Asia reported that Apple is “drastically” cutting production of the iPhone Air and shifting focus toward the iPhone 17and iPhone 17 Pro models.

This report lined up with one from Morgan Stanley that said there’s strong early demand for the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, while the iPhone Air has faced “relative weakness” in demand so far.

“Our supply chain checks suggest an iPhone 17 build increase is likely imminent,” according to analyst Erik Woodring at the investment bank, in a research note to clients — as noted by MacRumors. 

In the second half of 2025, Apple’s supply chain might increase its production of the new iPhones to more than 90 million units, up from 84 million to 86 million units currently, the note said.

However, in a note to clients — as noted by AppleInsider — Apple may not be changing its production figures for the iPhone Air after all. The investment bank’s report says that there are no changes to iPhone forecasts for October, taking a moment to emphasize that this included the iPhone Air forecasts. Supply chain research indicated to the analysts that builds were unchanged in the month.

Now a new report from The Information claims that sales of the thinnest-ever Apple smartphone is so bad that there won’t be a sequel. Apple had  planned to release a new ‌iPhone Air‌ in fall 2026, but now that’s not going to happen, the report (for which you need a subscription to read) says.
