It’s a bit confusing when you try to quit an Apple Arcade game in iPadOS 26

I thought that once a game was part of Apple Arcade, it was part of it forever. Apparently not, and I find that upsetting.

Quitting an Apple Arcade game in iPadOS 26.1 can be confusing until you figure out the process.

There’s no Command Q keyboard command as on the Mac. And there’s no red button in the top left of the iPad display to click to quit.

Instead you have to swipe up from the bottom of the tablet’s screen to see all your open apps. Then find the game you wish to quit and swipe up on its window to close it.

I’m not sure why it’s tricky and unintuitive to quit an Apple Arcade app in iPadOS 26. I’ve heard that the the difficulty may stem from new multitasking behaviors. Whatever the cause, hopefully, Apple will fix it in an upcoming iPadOS update.
