Apple’s 2027 operating systems to focus on quality rather than new features

Apple’s 2027 operating systems to focus on quality rather than new features.

Rather than lots of new features, Apple will concentrate on “quality and underlying performance” in macOS 27, iOS 27, and its other operating systems more stable, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says in his latest “Power On” newsletter.

“Aiming to improve the software, engineering teams are now combing through Apple’s operating systems, hunting for bloat to cut, bugs to eliminate, and any opportunity to meaningfully boost performance and overall quality,” he said. “Like Snow Leopard set the groundwork for future overhauls and new types of Macs, iOS 27 will lay the foundation for foldable iPhones and other new hardware.

macOS 27, iOS 27, iPadOS 27, tvOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27 will almost certainly be unveiled at next summer’s Worldwide Developer Conference and arrive in fall 2027.

Power On is exclusively for Bloomberg.com subscribers. Get the full Power On newsletter every week — plus unlimited access to every featured article and a Q&A with Gurman— when you subscribe to the Tech Newsletter Bundle.
