Adesso’s iPad accessory gives you most of the features of Apple’s Magic Keyboard for almost half the price

Adesso’s iPad accessory gives you most of the features of Apple’s Magic Keyboard for almost half the price.

If you want to get most of the features of Apple’s Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro at almost half the price, go with Adesso’s  Portable iPad Case with Bluetooth Keyboard and Touchpad.

The model for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro and iPad Air is US$169 compared to the eye-watering $349 price for Apple’s version. Adesso’s all-in-one solution integrates a lightweight aluminum keyboard with a protective case that doubles as a stand. At just 6mm thick, the WKB-7060 features low-profile scissor-switch keys for tactile, responsive typing and a built-in touchpad for intuitive navigation. The magnetic case secures and protects the iPad during travel.

The Adesso case is very close to Apple’s Magic Keyboard although there are a couple of differences. I actually prefer the keyboard keys in the former to those in the latter. The Adesso case keys feel a bit more “fluid” than the almost-too-stiff ones on Apple’s device.

However, the Portable iPad Case with Bluetooth Keyboard and Touchpad connects to your iPad via Bluetooth, while the Magic Keyboard via a magnetic, snap-on connection using the iPad’s Smart Connector, which provides both power and data transfer, so no pairing or charging is required.

The Bluetooth pairing in Adesso’s keyboard works just fine. However, I find Apple’s solution more elegant. But whether that elegance is worth an additional $180 is for you to decide.

Portable iPad Case with Bluetooth Keyboard and Touchpad rating (out of 5 stars): ★★★★
