Why would Apple release a 14-inch MacBook Pro and not a 16-inch model?

Apple might release new MacBooks Pros, new iPad Pros, and more next week

A MacBook Pro with an M5 processor could arrive next week.

On the Korean blog Naver, leaker yeux1122 claims that Apple will released an M5 iPad Pro, M5 MacBooks, and other items next week.

Apple is expected to update the MacBook Pro line with an M5 processor this year — though some rumors say it won’t arrive until early 2026. Regardless, yeux1122 says the tech giant will only release a MacBook Pro 14-inch model with the new processor, but not a 16-inch version.

M5 MacBooks and iPad Pros

The Sellers Research Group (that’s me) says that makes no sense. I predict that if the laptop is updated this year, the upgrades will come to both sizes of the MacBook Pro.

As for the iPad Pro, the upcoming tablet update is expected to pack the more powerful processor. Beyond that, no design changes are planned — unless, as some rumors have it, the update sports a dual-camera system for video calls in both portrait and landscape mode.

The next versions of the MacBook Pro and iPad Pro are expected to have the same design as the current models. However, Gurman says that Apple plans an overhaul of the MacBook Pro in 2026 when a laptop with an M6 chip, thinner design and (possibly) a touchscreen and cellular capabilities.

Regarding a new Vision Pro, it’s expected to be updated with a M4 or M5 processor. It also might come in a new space grey option with a newly designed strap for comfort.

Apple TV 4K, HomePod mini 2, AirTags 2

A new Apple TV 4K and new HomePod minis have been expected for some time. In a January report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman he predicted a new set-top box along with new HomePod minis would arrive this fall.

Gurman thinks the next Apple TV set-top box and HomePod mini will sport an Apple-designed Bluetooth and Wi-Fi chip. The chip will support Wi-Fi 6E, though Apple may not be able to match all of Broadcom’s chip capabilities with the first-generation in-house Wi-Fi chip. Gurman says that adopting a custom-designed Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip will allow Apple’s upcoming smart home devices to work better together and perhaps “synchronize data more quickly.”

Apple is highly likely to replace the current ‌Apple TV‌ 4K with a new model later this year, according to MacRumors.

He thinks that the Apple TV set-top box high arrive at a lower price: US$99. And Gurman adds that, unsurprisingly, there will likely be new color options for the HomePod mini.

Also, no major design changes have been rumored for the next Apple TV specifically, but Gurman said Apple has considered adding a built-in camera to a future model.

As for an updated AirTag, rumors indicate the AirTag successor won’t be a big departure from the original model. Instead, it will focus largely on improvements to the existing feature set. What features? Better range and an updated wireless chip.
