How to delete iCloud messages on your Mac, iPad, and iPhone

Sometimes you may need to delete iCloud messages on your Mac, iPad, and iPhone. Here’s how:

On Your iPhone or iPad:

  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. Swipe left: on the conversation you want to delete.
  3. Tap the Delete button (a trash can icon).
  4. Confirm the deletion if prompted.

On Your Mac

  1. Open the Messages app.
  2. In the conversation list, right-click or two-finger-tap (on a trackpad) the conversation you want to delete.
  3. Select Delete from the context menu.
  4. To delete individual messages, hold down the Command (⌘) key, click the messages you want, and then press the Delete key.

To Delete Attachments

  1. Open the Messages app and select a conversation.
  2. Tap or click the contact’s name or group name at the top of the screen.
  3. Select Info.
  4. Scroll down to find Photos, Videos, or Documents sections.
  5. Tap or click See All for the category.
  6. Tap or click Select, choose the attachments you wish to remove, and then tap or click Delete.

Things to Note

  • When Messages in iCloud is enabled, deleting a message on one device will delete it from all synced devices.
  • To free up iCloud storage, you can also go to Settings > Messages > Manage Storage on your iPhone to find and delete large attachments or conversations, or set messages to “Keep Messages” for a shorter duration.
