How to create a poll in the macOS 26 Messages app

In macOS Tahoe 26, you can create a poll directly within the Messages app in a group chat.

In macOS Tahoe 26, you can create a poll directly within the Messages app in a group chat. All participants must be using a compatible Apple operating system (macOS Tahoe, iOS 26, or iPadOS 26) for the feature to work. 

Create a new poll: 

  1. Open the Messages app and go to the conversation where you want to add the poll.
  2. Click the plus sign (+) to the left of the message field.
  3. Select Polls from the menu that appears.
  4. A new poll interface will open. Click each line to type your poll options. You can add up to 12 choices.
  5. Add any additional context in the comment field at the bottom.
  6. Press the Return key to send the poll to the conversation. 

Vote in a poll: 

  1. In a conversation, click on an option to place your vote.
  2. You can vote for one or more options. Click an option again to remove your vote.
  3. The results will update in real time as people vote. 

Add a new choice to an existing poll: 

  1. Open the conversation with the poll.
  2. Click Add Choice at the bottom of the poll.
  3. Type your new option and press Return to add it. Any participant can add new options. 

View poll details: 

  1. Right-click on the poll bubble in the conversation.
  2. Select Poll Details to see who voted for each option.
