Apple’s foldable iPhone’s debut may be pushed to 2027

Apple’s foldable iPhone may not arrive until 2027, though it’s been widely predicted that it would arrive in 2026. 

The Korean site The Elec says the delay is because it takes time for Apple to decide on the design and specifications of parts such as hinges.

Mizuho Securities predicted that “Apple’s expected production of foldable phone panels is decreasing from 13 million to 11 million units and 9 million units,” and “even if Apple releases a foldable phone in 2026 as planned, the production of foldable phones in the first year of release may be 5 to 7 million units less than the panel production.”

The investment bank adds that if  “Apple’s planned quantity is 10 million to 15 million units, but if the price is more than 2000 dollars (about 2.8 million won), about 5 million to 7 million units will be reasonable.”

Here are what Kuo expects to see as the hardware specs in an “iPhone Fold”:

° Touch ID returns as a side button, as Face ID may be absent due to thickness and internal space constraints.

° The foldable iPhone will have a book-style design, featuring an approximately 7.8-inch crease-free inner display and an approximately 5.5-inch outer display.

° The rear camera features a dual-lens setup, with one front-facing camera available in both folded and unfolded states.

° It will measure 9–9.5mm thick when folded and 4.5–4.8mm when unfolded.

° The hinge will combine stainless steel and titanium alloy, while the casing opts for titanium alloy.

° It will use the same high-density battery cells as the ultra-thin iPhone 17.
