With all the issues involving Apple Intelligence and a “more personalized” Siri, Apple is reportedly considering internal and external candidates to find the right fit to lead the projects, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says in his latest “Power On” newsletter.
In March Mike Rockwell, Apple’s head of the Technology Development Group who spearheaded the developer of the Apple Vision Pro, took control of the Siri team following the “personalized Siri” fiasco/missing Apple Intelligence fiasco. He reports to Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering.
At the time Gurman said Apple CEO Tim Cook had “lost confidence” in Giannandrea’s ability to “execute on product development.” Giannandrea is now overseeing artificial intelligence research and development in general.
At the time, Apple Vision Pro chief Mike Rockwell assumed Giannandrea’s role. However, Gurman says that’s now less likely.
In fact, he says that Apple may be eyeing a senior AI exec at Meta. If that happened, it might be fitting as Meta has been luring folks away from Apple’s AI team to work on its SuperIntelligence projects.
