Apple patent filing involves ‘Techniques for Illuminating a Physical Space’

Apple has filed for a patent for “Techniques for Illuminating a Physical Space,” which hints at future plans for smart home tech.

About the patent filing

Electronic devices often control the illumination of physical space. The electronic devices can tailor the illumination of the physical space based on a user’s preferences. However, Apple says that some techniques for illuminating a physical space using electronic devices, are “generally cumbersome and inefficient.”

For example, some existing techniques use a complex and time-consuming user interface, which may include multiple key presses or keystrokes. Apple adds that existing techniques require more time than necessary, wasting user time and device energy.

Apple’s patent is designed to provide electronic devices with faster, more efficient methods and interfaces for illuminating a physical space. Such methods and interfaces optionally complement or replace other methods for illuminating a physical space.

Summary of the patent filing

Here’s Apple’s abstract of the patent filing: “The present disclosure generally relates to illuminating a physical space, such as duplicating lighting conditions of an external environment, simulating light conditions, and/or storing one or more characteristics of lighting conditions.”
