Apple may build a test production line for the rumored ‘iPhone Fold’

"iPhone Fold" concept

Apple has held talks with supplier about the possibility of building a test production line for a foldable iPhone in Taiwan, with an eye toward mass producing the device in India for release next year, according to Nikkei Asia (a subscription is required to read the article).

The tech giant has apparently targeted sales of about 95 million iPhone 18 models in 2026. Apple is expected to debut the foldable iPhone in September 2026 alongside the iPhone 18 line-up, according to JP Morgan.

Or perhaps not. ETNews claims that Apple WON’T release an iPhone 18 next year, but will instead focus all its attention on a foldable iPhone. This would be highly unusual, and the Sellers Research Group (that’s me) is skeptical. However, the expansion of smartphone line-up with an “iPhone Fold” will see the line-up reorganized and the release time of the general iPhone changed, per ETNews.
