So far the iPhone 17 Air doesn’t sound very appealing to me; here’s why

So far, the iPhone Air doesn’t sound very appealing to me for two reasons. Here’s why:

Apple is considering releasing a bumper case for the upcoming svelte smartphone.  according to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman. Similar to the rubber bumper case that Apple introduced for the iPhone 4 in 2010, he says the iPhone 17 Air version of the case would cover the edges of the device, but not the back of it. The purpose, of course, is to offer added protection for the thinnnnn smartphone.

There are also rumors that Apple plans to release a battery pack to mitigate the shorter battery life of the ultra-slim iPhone. A report by The Information claims that a fourth of iPhone Air users won’t be able to get through a full day on a single charge.

A bumper case and an external battery? The iPhone 17 Air is apparently going to be the slimmest iPhone ever released. Having two such external (and necessary) peripherals seems to defeat the purpose.

Let’s hope Apple isn’t falling back into its old habits of choosing form over function.
