Apple plans a major revamp of Siri to go along with its rumored “HomePad” and “Apple Bot” products, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
From his report: Apple is planning to put Siri at the center of the device operating system and give it a visual personality to make it feel lifelike. The approach, dubbed Bubbles, is vaguely reminiscent of Clippy, an animated paper clip from the 1990s that served as a virtual assistant in Microsoft Office.
Apple has tested making Siri look like an animated version of the Finder logo, the iconic smiley face representing the Mac’s file management system. A final decision on its appearance hasn’t been made, with designers considering ideas that veer closer to Memoji, the playful characters that represent Apple user accounts.
Apparently, this will be a version of Siri that follows the delayed “personalized Siri” that’s purportedly coming in spring of 2026.
Apple has been heavily criticized for the delay. On March 7 Apple announced that it was delaying the anticipated Siri update with more specialized features until 2026.
In a statement to Daring Fireball, Apple spokesperson Jacqueline Roy had this to say: “Siri helps our users find what they need and get things done quickly, and in just the past six months, we’ve made Siri more conversational, introduced new features like type to Siri and product knowledge, and added an integration with ChatGPT. We’ve also been working on a more personalized Siri, giving it more awareness of your personal context, as well as the ability to take action for you within and across your apps. It’s going to take us longer than we thought to deliver on these features and we anticipate rolling them out in the coming year.”
