Apple has revoked the European Union distribution rights for iTorrent, a BitTorrent client

Apple has revoked the European Union distribution rights for iTorrent, a BitTorrent client, reports TorrentFreak.

BitTorrent is a proprietary adware BitTorrent client developed by Bram Cohen and Rainberry, Inc. used for uploading and downloading files via the BitTorrent protocol.

iTorrent allows you to download BitTorrent podcasts from iTunes.

As TorrentFreak notes, historically, Apple has banned torrent clients from its iOS devices. In the European Union (EU), however, these types of apps have been available for more than a year through third-party app stores as a result of the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA) that went into effect last year, requiring Apple to allow apps to be installed through third-party stores.

So why did Apple revoke the iTorrent developer’s “alternative distribution” right, which is required to publish apps in alternative stores, including AltStore PAL? That’s unclear.

From TorrentFreak: Given Apple’s long history of banning torrent apps from its own store, it’s tempting to conclude that the company stepped in for the same reason here. For now, however, there’s no confirmation that’s indeed the case.

Speaking directly with TorrentFreak, iTorrent developer Daniil Vinogradov (XITRIX) says that Apple did not reach out to him regarding the revocation of his alternative EU distribution rights.
