Apple execs discuss (and disagree) on possibility of buying an AI start-up to help with Apple Intelligence issues

Apple seems to have fixed an Apple Intelligence issue on the iPhone 17 and iPhone Air lineup.

Apple execs have reportedly discussed acquiring Mistral AI and Perplexity — although there’s disagreement on how to proceed, according to The Information (a subscription is required to read the article).

Mistrial AI is a French AI start-up headquarters in Paris. It specializes in open-weight large language models (LLMs), with both open-source and proprietary AI models.

Perplexity is an American privately held software company offering a web search engine that processes user queries and synthesizes responses It uses large language models and incorporates real-time web search capabilities, enabling it to provide responses based on current Internet content.

The Information says Senior Vice President of Services Eddy Cue is the biggest proponent of buying an AI firm to deal with Apple Intelligence problems. offerings.
