How to turn on Hide alerts in Messages on iOS 16, iPadOS 16

Messages in iOS and iPadOS is one of the tools I use every day. However, sometimes it’s nice to silence/hide the app’s alerts. Here’s how to do this in iOS 16 and iPadOS 16:

  1. Open the Messages app: Locate and open the Messages app on your iPhone.
  2. Find the conversation: Locate the conversation (individual or group) you want to mute.
  3. Swipe left: Swipe left on the conversation in the list of messages.
  4. Tap the bell icon: Tap the bell icon with a line through it (the mute icon) that appears on the right side of the conversation.
  5. Alternative method: If swiping doesn’t work, tap on the conversation, then tap the contact’s name or group icon at the top of the screen. Toggle the Hide Alerts switch to the on position.
  6. Confirmation: You’ll see a bell icon with a line through it next to the conversation in the main Messages list, indicating that Hide Alerts is enabled.
