New developments hint at even slimmer, more compact iPads in the future

The iPad Pro will purportedly be the first device with a M5 chip.

LG Innotek plans to supply its chip-on-film (CoF) to Apple for iPad OLED panels, according to TheElec

And the tech giant is expected to approve or reject LX Semicon’s display driver IC (DDI), which uses LG Innotek’s CoF, this month, the article adds. MacRumors says this change could potentially deliver slimmer bezels and more compact designs on the iPad without sacrificing screen size.

The Sellers Research Group (that’s me) doesn’t think we’ll see slimmer iPads this year. However, they should arrive in 2026.

As for the iPad Pro, it’s expected to be updated with a M5 processor this year, though no major design changes are expected. And the rumor mill says apple will release an 18.8-inch foldable iPad Pro as soon as 2027.
