Logitech’s Flip Folio may be the ultimate case/keyboard combo for the iPad

Logitech has announced the Flip Folio, a protective case with a magnetically-storable keyboard for the iPad Pro and iPad Air.

Logitech’s Flip Folio is a protective case with a magnetically-storable keyboard for the iPad Pro and iPad Air and offers as many flexibility options as any case I’ve ever tried.

Perhaps the key selling point of the Flip Folio is the adjustability offered by the multi-angle kickstand, which has a compact footprint). You can orient your iPad on it in either landscape or portrait mode. And it folds into a built-in kickstand, giving you multiple viewing angles.

The Flip Folio feels sturdy — perhaps too sturdy. It creases as you bend it to accommodate different angles for using your iPad. However, when I first began using the case and tried to bend it, there was a lot of resistance. I was afraid I’d break it, so I contacted Logitech. They said to bend away as it wouldn’t hurt the Flip Folio at all. So far, so good.

Then there’s the full-size Bluetooth keyboard with a compact design and keys that have a nice clicking sound when depressed.  When not in use, the keyboard magnetically snaps to the back of the case for easy storage. It also provides front and back protection for your iPad.

Conveniently, the familiar iPadOS shortcuts are all present and accounted for in the keyboard layout.Rather than the standard function keys of Apple’s Magic Keyboard for the iPad, the Flip Folio keyboard features four iPadOS-specific shortcut keys: to bring up Spotlight Search, switch between apps, open the Emoji picker, and capture screenshots. I find the latter especially handy when I’m trying to create articles for Apple World Today using only my iPad Pro running an early developer beta of iPadOS 26 (don’t try this at home, kids).

What’s more, the keyboard can also be paired with  three Bluetooth-enabled devices so you can, for example, pair it with an iPad Pro, an iPad Air, and another device — whether it’s made by Apple or not.

The Flip Folio is less expensive than Apple’s own iPad case and keyboards (although I really like the Magic Keyboard for iPad when I’m traveling). Also, unlike Apple’s all-in-one keyboard cases, which magnetically attach to the iPad as a single unit, the Flip Folio, as mentioned, separates the case and the keyboard.

This means you can set the keyboard aside when you don’t need to type and will be using your iPad to, for instance, watch videos or read and ebook.

The Flip Folio is compatible with the iPad Pro (11-inch M4, 13-inch M4) and iPad Air (11-inch M2 & M3, 13-inch M2 & M3, and 5th Gen). It costs US$179.99 for 13-inch iPad Pro and iPad Air models, and $159.99 for 11-inch iPad Pro and iPad Air models. Available in a range of colors: graphite, black, pale grey, lilac, and sand.

One final note: The folks at Logitech say the Flip Folio is designed with sustainability in mind, featuring a minimum of 37% certified post-consumer recycled plastic for the Graphite and Midnight Black models. The aluminum model is purportedly produced using low-carbon processes, and all paper packaging is responsibly sourced from FSC-certified and controlled sources.
