Trump thinks Apple will ‘up’ the amount it plans to spend on expanding U.S. operations

After talking with CEO Tim Cook, President Trump thinks Apple will increase the amount it plans to spend on expanding U.S. operations.

President Donald Trump says he talked to Tim Cook on Monday, after the U.S. and China agreed to suspend most tariffs for 90 days — and that the Apple CEO will “even up his numbers.”

Apple previously said in February it would spend US$500 billion to expand many of its operations in the U.S., including assembling AI servers in Houston. According to CNBC, Trump wants more.

The Trump administration wants Apple to bring device production, including iPhone manufacturing, to the U.S.. However, many experts says this is unlikely and would be very expensive. Plus, it could take years to build the necessary plants in the U.S.

“I spoke to Tim Cook this morning, and he’s going to, I think, even up his numbers,” Trump said in the Oval Office (per CNBC). ”$500 billion, he’s going to be building a lot of plants in the United States for Apple. And we look forward to that.”
