The Mac now has 10.1% of the global PC market, 15.9% of the U.S. PC market

The Mac now has 10.1% of the global PC market, 15.9% of the U.S. PC market, according to data from the Gartner research group.

Worldwide PC shipments totaled 59 million units in the first quarter of 2025, a 4.8% increase from the first quarter of 2024, according to preliminary results by Gartner, Inc. The research group adds that U.S. PC shipments grew 12.6%, reaching 16 million units in the first quarter of 2025.

And it was good news for the Mac in terms of global and personal computer market sales.

Worldwide, Apple sold 5.9 million Macs for 10.1% market share in the first quarter of 2025. That compares to sales of 5.5 million Macs and 9.9% market share in the first quarter of 2023.

That’s annual growth of 7% globally. Ahead of Apple in the global personal computer market are Lenovo (25.9% market share), HP (21.6%), and Dell (16.3).

In the U.S. in the first quarter of 2025, Apple sold 2.6 million Macs for 15.9% market share. That compares to sales of 2.2 million Macs and 15.4% market share in the first quarter of 2023.

That’s growth of 16.2% annually in the U.S. Ahead of Apple in the U.S. personal computer market are HP (25.1% market share), Dell (23.9%), and Lenovo (19.2).

Note the Gartner doesn’t count iPads as personal computers. If the research group did, Apple’s market share would be much higher.
