Microsoft surpasses Apple to become the world’s most valuable company

Today Microsoft surpassed Apple to become the world’s most valuable public company.

The former’s market capitalization reached US$2.64 trillion, slightly ahead of Apple’s $2.59 trillion. In June 2023, Apple became the world’s first $3 trillion company, and has been one of the most valuable companies by market capitalization since then. However, Apple’s stock prices have plummeted due to the Trump administration’s tariffs.

Apple has lost $773 billion in value since tariff announcements, a 23% plummet, as markets closed Tuesday. Market cap measures the size and value of a company traded on the stock market, multiplying the total number of shares by the stock price.
