According to the latest data from Canalys, grew 9.4% to 62.7 million units in the first quarter of 2025. And it was good news for Apple.
Notebook (including mobile workstations) shipments hit 49.4 million units, up 10% compared to a year ago, adds the research group. Shipments of desktops (including desktop workstations) rose 8% to 13.3 million units.
Canalys says first quarter volumes were boosted by manufacturers ramping up shipments to the US in anticipation of the first round of the Trump administration’s tariff announcements. As the next round of higher tariffs on more countries goes into effect, both direct and indirect impacts threaten global PC market recovery, adds the research group.
According to Canalys, Apple sold 6.5 million Macs in the first quarter of 2025 for 10.4% of the global personal computer market. That compares to sales of 5.4 million Macs and 9.3% in the first quarter of 2024.
Ahead of Apple in the global personal computer market are Lenovo (24.2% market share), HP (20.3% market share), and Dell (15.2% market share). Note that Canalys doesn’t count tablets such as the iPad as a personal computer.
