Helped by the iPhone 16e launch and continued expansion in emerging markets, Apple took the top spot in global smartphone sales in the first quarter of 2025, according to new data from Counterpoint Research.
The research group says this was the iPhone maker’ss first ever for the first quarter, with a 19% share. While sales in the US, Europe and China were either flat or declining, Apple recorded double-digit growth in Japan, India, Middle East and Africa, and Southeast Asia.
Apple now has 19% of the global smartphone market. That’s about the same as the first quarter of 2024, though iPhone sales grew 4% year-over-year.
Overall, the global smartphone market continued its growth trajectory in the first quarter, says Counterpoint Research. Smartphone sell-through grew 3% year-over-year during the quarter, driven by growth in emerging markets and a subsidy-led demand boost in China.
