Apple flew five planes filled with iPhones and other products from India to the US in March to avoid the fallout from the global tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, reports The Times of India.
The publication adds that the tech giant currently has no plans to increase retail prices in any markets despite the tariffs. Factories in India, China, and “other key locations” have been shipping products to the US in anticipation of the higher tariffs, according the The Times of India.
“The reserves that arrived at lower duty will temporarily insulate the company from the higher prices that it will need to pay for new shipments under the revised tax rates,” a source told the publication. Apple’s US warehouses are purportedly stocked with with product for several months.
Apple currently assembles the entire iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 lineups in India, as well as China. A 10% baseline tariff on all imports into the United States kicked in on Saturday. On April 9, the tariffs that Trump has labeled as “reciprocal” will kick in. This will raise the tariff rate on imports from China to 54% and imports from India to 27%.
