Before the Apple Vision Pro arrived, there was speculation that it would have to be tethered to an iPhone or Mac for its processing power. That, of course, didn’t happen.
In his latest “Power On” newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says this could happen in a future version of the spatial computer to reduce weight and cost. When will such a device arrive? With the ultra-low latency of a wired connection, the headset would be useful for viewing images during surgery or for flight simulators, according to Gurman.
That’s unclear, though 2026 seems like the earliest it might arrive. Gurman also thinks that a further lighter and less expensive version of the Vision Pro is in the planning stages. He notes that, at US$3,499, the current Vision Pro is seven times the price of Meta Quest 3, and that a future Apple spatial computer will “seek to address” both of these issues
